The Good Grains Project

Team Name: The Good Grains Project

IDEAS Project Pitch: Foodgrains (like wheat, peanuts, etc.) gain moisture when they are stored, which leads to variation in weight, & deterioration in quality. The deterioration is due to the fact that presence of unwanted moisture results in growth of fungi; and fungal interaction with foodgrains leads to formation of Aflatoxin, which is one of the most toxic & carcinogenic substances known.
Current solutions for detecting aflatoxin are time consuming & expensive lab tests, which are inaccessible to farmers, warehouse managers & consumers.
I am trying to develop an easy to use & low-cost product that helps detect the presence of fungi/aflatoxin in foodgrains.

Sectors: Agriculture & Food
